Customer Edge (CE) Deployments

A Customer Edge site is F5 Distributed Cloud software running in your environment – as virtual machines on VMware or KVM, as instances in AWS, Azure or Google Cloud, or on supported hardware at branch and edge locations. CE sites register with the Distributed Cloud console, build encrypted tunnels to the nearest Regional Edges, and extend load balancing, security and networking into networks the Regional Edges cannot reach directly.

What we deploy

• Single-node sites for labs and branch locations, and three-node high-availability clusters for data centers and production clouds.
• Secure Mesh sites for networking and application delivery use cases, including site-to-site connectivity through Site Mesh Groups.
• Cloud sites in AWS, Azure and Google Cloud provisioned through the console or Terraform, with the VPC/VNet routing and security groups they need.
• Virtual sites and labels so that load balancers and policies target groups of CE sites rather than individual nodes.

How a CE engagement runs

Every CE deployment follows the same discipline as our BIG-IP builds:

• Sizing – vCPU, memory, disk and throughput per site, based on the applications and security services it will carry.
• Connectivity – outbound reachability to the Regional Edges, DNS, NTP and proxies, plus the interior routes or BGP peering the site needs.
• Build – site token registration, node bring-up, cluster formation and software version alignment.
• Validation – tunnel health, failover between nodes and Regional Edges, and end-to-end tests for each published application.
• Operations – upgrade windows, monitoring and alerting, and a JustADC Post-Installation Report for the site.
